From September 5th to 7th, 2025, Peculiar Women of Substance Foundation (PWS) brought the EmpowerHer Project to the community of Agona Nsaba in the Central Region of Ghana. This initiative is part of our larger commitment to train 3,000 women by 2027, equipping them with vocational skills, startup materials, and the confidence to launch their own businesses.

Building Skills That Last

The three-day training focused on practical, income-generating skills, including:

• Beading: slippers, bags, jewelry, and accessories.

• Tie and Dye: colourful designs for fabric and T-shirts.

• Bar Soap and Bleach Making: safe, affordable cleaning products for home and market use.

Participants were guided through hands-on demonstrations, safety instructions and supervised practice. At the end, each woman received a startup package which contains essential tools and raw materials to help her continue production and begin earning immediately.

Day-by-Day Journey

Day 1:

Our team left Accra at dawn, arriving in Agona Nsaba to a warm welcome from local leaders. We set up the training spaces and began with introductions and safety briefings. By the afternoon, women were actively creating, some learning to mix dyes, others stringing beads or cutting soap molds.

Day 2:

The atmosphere was electric. Women rotated across the different training stations, trying new techniques and mastering their chosen crafts. It was a day of practice, learning and confidence-building. Laughter filled the room as colourful tie-dye cloths dried in the sun and the first batches of handmade soap were displayed.

Day 3:

The final day was devoted to polishing skills. Participants showcased what they had created, received their startup kits, and shared their excitement for the businesses they plan to start. Before leaving, our team met with community leaders, expressed gratitude and received their blessings to continue this mission in other communities.

Challenges We Overcame

Every project comes with lessons. For this edition:

• Since the flagship initiative is designed for teen mothers, many participants came with their babies. This made chemical-based training difficult at times, but our team ensured their children were cared for so the young mothers could fully participate.

• Publicity in the community was limited, reducing the number of women who could benefit. Future editions will place stronger emphasis on local mobilization.

Lasting Impact

The smiles on participants’ faces said it all. Many expressed that this was their first time handling production tools or learning a skill they could turn into income. Several shared business ideas they hope to start immediately using their startup kits.

We believe these women will not only transform their own lives but also strengthen their families and communities by creating ripple effects of empowerment.

Looking Ahead

The EmpowerHer Project is not a one-time effort; it is a movement. Our vision is clear: to train 3,000 women by 2027, ensuring each one leaves with the skills, resources, and confidence to succeed.

The next edition will be held in Accra this November, and we are excited to continue this journey of transformation.
