The Peculiar Women of Substance (PWS) Foundation has ended another successful edition of the EmpowerHer Initiative, EmpowerHer Project 2.2, held on 28th–29th November 2025 at the Church of Christ building in Amasaman, Greater Accra. This final project for the year brought together over 100 participants eager to learn new skills, improve their livelihoods, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
Empowering Women and Communities Since 2018
EmpowerHer is one of PWS Foundation’s key programs designed to equip women and girls with practical skills that promote financial independence. Since 2018, the Foundation has carried out several community impact programs including vocational training, blood donation drives, health outreaches, literacy initiatives, and borehole construction.

The long-term goal of the EmpowerHer Initiative is clear:
To train 3,000 women by 2027 and equip each participant with the tools they need to start their own small businesses.
Why Amasaman?
Before settling on Amasaman, the team scouted several communities across Greater Accra, carefully selecting a location where skill empowerment was most needed. After consultations with community leaders and stakeholders, Amasaman emerged as the most suitable community for this phase of the project.
Two Days of Learning, Creativity, and Transformation
Participants were trained in four main skill areas:
● Tie & Dye
● Beading
● Fabric Softener Production

● Shower Gel Production
Due to low numbers in one group, the Fabric Softener and Shower Gel classes were merged, giving those participants the added privilege of learning two skills instead of one.
The energy was vibrant, and the learning atmosphere was inspiring. One beautiful highlight was the participation of several men, young and old, who enthusiastically joined the Tie & Dye session and engaged fully in the activities. Their seriousness and willingness to learn added a refreshing dynamic to the project.
A Truly Community-Powered Experience
The project enjoyed generous support from individuals and partner organizations. Special appreciation goes to:
● Blak Afrik Tie & Dye Batik Hub
● Nhyira Sparkling Creations
● Eni’s Transport Services
● Akyaa’s Kitchen
● Bloompure Organics
● Firenite Tech
● Opata Studio
● Juice Afrik
Akyaa’s Kitchen went the extra mile by providing an assortment of meals, drinks and even a cake to celebrate their 5th anniversary alongside participants. Their kindness made Day 1 extra special.
Participants were refreshed throughout the event with water, drinks, pastries, local beverages, and snacks donated by partners and supporters.

Hands-On Training and Startup Packages
Every participant received a startup package tailored to their chosen skill. These packages included essential materials such as dyes, chemicals, mixing tools, beads, and safety equipment, everything needed to begin small-scale production immediately after the training.
The goal is not only to train but also to position participants to start earning right away. to succeed.
Recognizing Excellence
At the end of Day 2, participants proudly displayed the products they created. The team awarded Best Participants and Most Hardworking Participants with additional startup materials. These awards were to encourage consistency, excellence, and commitment to entrepreneurship.
Overcoming Challenges
Like every project, EmpowerHer 2.2 came with a few challenges.
The turnout was lower than expected, considering the event was held in Accra. Additionally, a breakdown in communication with the initial community contact resulted in unplanned expenses for venue and lodging, services that are normally provided at no cost.
These experiences will strengthen future planning and improve communication structures for subsequent projects.

Our Impact in Numbers
EmpowerHer Project 2.2 reached:
● 46 participants in Tie & Dye
● 117 participants in Fabric Softener & Shower Gel
● 67 participants in Beading
Total: 224 lives impacted.

A Hopeful Future for Women Entrepreneurs
EmpowerHer Project 2.2 reaffirmed our belief that real empowerment happens when people are given skills, resources, and encouragement. Many participants expressed excitement about starting their own small businesses, and several indicated interest in joining the PWS Foundation for further mentorship and community engagement.
This project marks a strong finish to 2025, another step toward a future where every woman has the opportunity to thrive, provide for her family, and contribute meaningfully to her community.
